Are all of the Pueblo-style homes I see in the Taos area authentic adobe homes?
No. Houses in the Taos area are built with a wide variety of building materials such as frame, rastra block, pumice and strawbale. All of these structures can be plastered over so they look like a traditional adobe home.
One tell-tale sign to an authentic adobe home would be the deep window sills visible from the inside of the house due to the 10" thick adobe bricks creating the walls.

What exactly is an "adobe" house?
Dear C.A.S.A.,
Adobe is a natural building material made from sand, clay and water, mixed with straw and shaped into bricks and dried in the sun. Adobe structures are extremely durable and account for some of the oldest buildings on the planet. The thick walls of an adobe home hold the heat in the winter and keep cool in the summer, making it an excellent building material for our environment.
Taos Pueblo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is made of adobe and has been continuously inhabited for over 1100 years.
Sincerely, Homegirl
